What is a normal menstrual cycle?
A cycle lasts an average of 28 days, but any cycle between 21 and 35 days is normal. Ovulation occurs approximately 14 days before the next period. Irregular cycles, absent, very painful, or very heavy periods warrant a medical consultation.
Does diet influence the menstrual cycle?
Yes. Severe caloric restriction can suppress ovulation (hypothalamic amenorrhea). Iron is crucial during menstruation. Magnesium, omega-3s, and vitamin B6 help reduce premenstrual symptoms. A dietitian can identify deficiencies and adapt the diet according to the cycle phases.
