Norsan: a brand born from a conviction

Norsan was founded in 2013 by Joachim Graf, a Norwegian living in Germany. In Norway, fish oil is a staple in every kitchen. Once in Germany, he was struck to find that this habit didn't exist anywhere else in Europe. Rather than accept it, he chose to dedicate his company to a single mission: educate people about the benefits of omega-3s and offer products of exceptional quality. Ten years later, Norsan is the number one omega-3 brand sold in pharmacies and is present in nearly every European country. The company grew from 5 to 200 people, while keeping its family-business culture and core values intact: transparency, kindness, excellence.

One molecule, mastered completely

Where other manufacturers spread themselves across many products, Norsan made the opposite choice: specialize in omega-3s, and only omega-3s. This isn't a compromise. It's a philosophy. It allows them to control everything: the source, the manufacturing, the final quality, and full transparency at every step.

Educate before selling

Norsan's primary mission isn't to sell supplements, it's to educate. Free webinars with healthcare professionals, a blog, social media: Norsan makes scientific information accessible to everyone. That's exactly why Reflet chose to work with them.

Quality with no compromises

100% natural triglyceride form

Norsan's omega-3s are in the exact form found in fish. No chemical concentration, no industrial processing. What you swallow resembles what you'd get from biting directly into fish.

Maximum 4 hours between catch and processing

Norsan enforces an ultra-short window between catching the fish and processing it, to limit oxidation right from the source. The fish come from wild, sufficiently oxygenated areas, with sustainable species renewal rates.

Oxygen-free extraction, vacuum micro-distillation, three-step purification

Every step of the process is designed to protect the fragile omega-3 molecules. The result: a pure oil, free of heavy metals and pollutants, with a TOTOX index always below 11.

Extra virgin organic olive oil

Some Norsan oils contain an award-winning organic olive oil, rich in polyphenols. It acts as an antioxidant shield and protects the omega-3s from oxidation, while improving their absorption.

Opaque glass bottles

No contact between the oil and plastic. No exposure to light. Every packaging detail is designed to preserve quality down to the last drop.

Maximum IFOS score on all criteria

IFOS certification, International Fish Oil Standards, is the independent reference body for fish oils. It verifies actual EPA and DHA doses, product purity, and oil freshness. Norsan achieves the maximum score on every criterion. The Friend of the Sea label additionally guarantees sustainable, responsible fishing.

For vegans too

Norsan offers a vegan omega-3 range, made from a microalgae called Schizochytrium sp., naturally high in EPA and DHA. The exact equivalent of fish oil, with no impact on the marine ecosystem. And for people with a fish allergy: fish oils contain no proteins, so there's no risk of an allergic reaction. But the vegan range remains an option if you prefer to play it safe.

🔎 Useful definitions

Vacuum micro-distillation: a purification technique carried out in the absence of oxygen, which removes contaminants and limits oil oxidation during processing.

___

PCBs (polychlorinated biphenyls): persistent organic pollutants present in the marine environment that can accumulate in fish. Fish oil purification aims to remove them.

🎯 Practical actions

  • Check three key criteria when choosing omega-3s: the natural triglyceride form, a sufficient EPA and DHA dose per daily serving, and independent certifications like IFOS.
  • Check the lab analyses available on the brand's website. A transparent brand makes them directly accessible.
  • If you're vegan, vegetarian, or want to limit your impact on the marine ecosystem, you can choose microalgae-based omega-3s.
  • If you're allergic to fish, know that fish oils contain no proteins and therefore don't trigger allergic reactions.
    • Vegan omega-3s remain an option if you'd rather play it safe.
