What you will learn in this episode
Endocrine Disruptors: Recognize and Avoid Them
- What is an endocrine disruptor and how It Disrupts the Hormonal System
- How can these substances Damage the quality of oocytes and sperm
- Where The main endocrine disruptors are hiding In daily life (cooking, cosmetics, home)
- Simple gestures, Realistic, to reduce your exposure without falling into perfection or stress
- 2—3 plants useful for supporting the liver, the body's “purification plant”
Endocrine disruptors: why they are a problem
One Endocrine disruptor may be a natural or synthetic molecule (pesticides, plasticizers, plasticizers, plasticizers, condoms, fragrances, heavy metals...) that will interact with the human hormonal system.
These substances can mimic a hormone, Block its receptors or interfere with its production, which “makes a mess” in the hormonal balance, from fetal life and throughout life.
On the Female Fertility, they can:
- Accentuate hormonal imbalances already caused by stress, inflammation or diet;
- Cause irregular cycles, sub-optimal periods, poor quality ovulations, more miscarriages;
- Decrease oocyte quality and the capacity of the endometrium to accommodate pregnancy.
On the Fertility male :
- Endocrine disruptors alter sperm production, concentration and quality;
- They decrease their motility (ability to “go up” to the oocyte) and increase abnormalities in the tissues of the reproductive organs (testicles, canals, etc.)
💡 Key figures
Chronic exposure to endocrine disruptors (phthalates, bisphenols, phenols, phenols, phenols, pesticides, flame retardants, etc.) is associated with an increase in female fertility disorders (ovulation abnormalities, irregular cycles, irregular cycles, irregular cycles, miscarriages, irregular cycles, miscarriages, irregular cycles, miscarriages, irregular cycles, miscarriages, irregular cycles, miscarriages, endometriosis) in Numerous studies published in Pub Med Central.
Concrete Actions, Without Aiming for Perfection
Carole recognizes that in today's world, it is impossible to completely eliminate endocrine disruptors, and that wanting to control everything can become a source of stress... which in turn affects fertility. The objective is therefore to do”What We Can, Little by Little”, by first targeting the simplest levers.
In general:
- Ventilate your home 1 to 2 times a day (except extreme outdoor pollution) to reduce air pollutants.
- Hunt for “dust balls” under furniture and behind doors: these are real endocrine disruptor magnets, which release them into the air if they are not sucked in.
In the kitchen:
- Limit plastic in contact with food:
- Replace plastic boxes with glass, Pyrex or stainless steel;
- Never heat a meal in plastic (microwave, hot dish put directly into a plastic box, papillotes in cling film).
- Eat as much as possible Vegetable and organic (fruits, vegetables, vegetables, oilseeds, spices) to reduce exposure to pesticides classified as endocrine disruptors.
- Limit ultra-processed products that are rich in additives (flavor enhancers, artificial colors, texturizers) that add non-essential molecules.
- Replace, over time, the Scratched Nonstick Frying Pans and plastic utensils made of cast iron, stainless steel and wooden spoons.
Cosmetics and hygiene products:
- Choose products with a short list of ingredients, if possible organic, without parabens or synthetic fragrances.
- Move forward step by step: start with the product used on the largest surfaces (shower gel, body lotion...), then the rest.
- For fragrances (which means a lot to some!) , Carole suggested to:
- spray on clothing rather than directly on the skin;
- reduce the quantity and frequency of use;
- Consider, in the long term, a more natural perfume if it is acceptable for the person.
Household and home products:
- Efforently replace complex household products with a few basics: black soap, white vinegar, bicarbonate, citric acid.
- When renewing a mattress, sofa or large textiles, pay attention to the presence of flame retardants, very persistent in the environment. You can also use covers or plaids made of more neutral fabrics between yourself and the sofa/mattress.
The important thing is not to change everything at once, but to make small realistic changes (change the boxes, then the stoves, then a household product), remembering that each step forward is already beneficial for hormonal health and fertility.
Supporting the Liver is also a Complementary Solution
To help the body better manage what it is exposed to, Carole suggests some plants that support the Liver, a veritable “purification plant” involved in the detoxification of numerous pollutants and hormones.
- Milk Thistle : flagship plant for the liver, rich in silymarin, studied for its protective and antioxidant effects on liver cells; used instead in the form of extracts (drops, capsules), because the active components do not dissolve well in water, so the infusion is not suitable.
- Artichoke (leaf) : also supports hepatobiliary functions, but the leaf is very bitter and difficult to drink in herbal tea; extracted forms (blisters, capsules, etc.) may be easier to use.
- Rosemary : choleretic and antioxidant plant, interesting for the liver; can be taken as an infusion (rather in the morning because it is stimulating) or in gemmotherapy (glycerine macerate of young shoots).
It is not a question of taking everything at once, or continuously: the idea is to Choose One or Two Suitable Plants To his situation, his tastes and his budget, and to use them in Cure, while remaining accompanied by a health professional, especially in case of pathology or treatment in progress.
🔎 Useful definitions
Bisphenols : group of synthetic molecules used in certain plastics and coatings (bottles, cans, tickets, etc.), including bisphenol A (BPA), S or F; several of them are classified or suspected as endocrine disruptors because they can mimic estrogens and alter fertility.
___
Parabens : a family of condoms widely used in cosmetics, pharmaceuticals and the food industry; they are also endocrine disruptors, capable of partly mimicking estrogens and affecting fertility or certain hormone-dependent cancers, which explains why we recommend limiting them
🎯 Actions concrètes
- I choose An Easy First Step : for example, ventilate every day and track down dust balls under furniture.
- I am replacing my Plastic boxes with glass/pyrex/stainless steel and I stop heating dishes in plastic (microwave, hot dish in a plastic box, foil wrap).
- Next time I buy, I'll see if I can take a Cast Iron or Stainless Steel Frying Pan rather than a new non-stick coating.
- I'm starting to simplify A cosmetic product (shower gel, body cream) by preferring a shorter formula, if possible organic and without synthetic fragrances.
- If I wish, I discuss with a health professional the interest of a Short course Milk thistle, artichoke, or rosemary to support my liver, taking into account my health condition and possible treatments.
